The Wilderness

"For I am about to do something new, see I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland." Isaiah 43:19

Like the Israelites, we often find ourselves in the wilderness. Our wilderness can be caused by many different things. It can be the result of our own sin, the sin of others, or by unrelated circumstances beyond our capability to change.

Isn't it awesome to know, we have a GOD who prepares a way out of the wilderness. HE "makes a pathway through the wilderness" and "creates rivers in dry wasteland." He loves us and does not desire for us wallow in the wilderness.

When we find ourselves in the wilderness, we must keep our focus on our Heavenly Father. We must seek HIM in prayer and continue to bath ourselves in HIS word.

Clinging to my Heavenly Father,

Andrea

Seeking Peace

"For Christ Himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in His own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us." Ephesians 2:14

I do not know about you, but some days, weeks, and even months simply do not feel peaceful. It is hard to travel through this life when you do not feel at peace.

Sure, I have inner peace regarding my salvation and many other areas. However, there is often one crisis or emergency in my life and it stomps and tramples all over my inner peace.

I sail along peacefully and out of the blue comes a bomb shell. You know those days. All is good and boom! Now you need the EMS..the Fire Department..the Police Department, and all the friends and family you can gather by your side.

This past week has been one of those weeks for me. I have sobbed and prayed and sobbed some more; and then God spoke to me. He revealed to me the purpose of my suffering and the suffering of others in my life. His message was clear:

Sometimes, I use painful situations to bring about needed change. Your pain and the pain of those you love is not in vain. I have a purpose in "all" things.

I am still emotional and struggling, but I have a renewed since of peace. I know my Heavenly Father has a greater plan for all our lives. Thank you, my prayer warrior friends for praying for me.

Seeking HIS continued peace,

Andrea

Tilled and Watered

"For ground that drinks the rain which often falls upon it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God." Hebrews 6:7

Last Thursday, I was in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The rain was a steady, soaking rain. As I sat watching the drops pelt the ground I began to think about the above passage.

God waters us like the "tilled soil." When we prepare our hearts....as they are tilled; God sends the rain to bless and grow us into the people HE created us to be.

Tilled: the soil (our heart) is prepared to receive the rain

Brings Forth Vegetation: spiritual growth

Those who are prepared for GOD to "rain" on them will grow spiritually. The rain of heaven pours forth on those hearts waiting to receive.

"Receive me" beckons our Heavenly Father...."allow me to water your tilled heart."

Growing in grace,

Andrea

*I did not take any pictures while I was away. I had my camera prepared, but was not able to stop and get the pictures. We traveled with another couple and I did NOT feel comfortable asking them to pull off the side of the road when I longed to take a picture. I am sorry.

The Old Stone Church

Our trip to Carlisle, Pennsylvania was beautiful. We began in Richmond, Virginia and traveled through West Virginia and Maryland into Pennsylvania via the scenic route. We saw many cows, horses, silo's, rolling hills, mountains, and an old stone church.

The old stone church sat close to the road in rural Virginia. The only remnant of life was the lonely vine growing up the side wall. The beautiful stone structure sat alone amongst the trees and weeds.

We passed the church by as many others do on a daily ritual to "somewhere." The building seem to cry out to me. It's beauty amazing and it's structural strength intact. Neither the rain or cool air hindered the beauty of this old stone church.

Where did the people go? and why?

How could people leave this roadside haven of tattered beauty?

By HIS mercy and in the grip of HIS grace,

Andrea

Thank You & Prayer Request

Thank you for all your prayers. We had a wonderful trip to Pennsylvania. We took the scenic route and absorbed the wonder of GOD's creation as we traveled. Friday was rainy and cold. Saturday was warm and beautiful.

I had planned to take pictures, but I did not take any while we were away. I am trying to recover from the long road trip. I hope to get back into the swing of blogging tomorrow.

I have a few prayer requests to share with you.

1)Frances Collins: Colton's grammy. She has stage 2 Lymphoma and is undergoing treatments at this time.

2)Colton: Pray for guidance as his family makes educational plans for next year.

3)My extended family (Bowling's): We could be the "poster child" for dysfunctional families. One of the significant problems is the lack of recognition that we have a problem. Being disjointed and having "no" relationship with one another is "normal" to many in my family. The choice to change must be in the heart of each individual. Those of us desiring a healthy family can not make the others comply. Only GOD can work to change. That being said....this is why I am beckoning prayers from around the world for my family.

As children and young adults we were not allowed to talk about it. We all were required to pretend our family was perfect. I am an adult now and no longer must live by those requirements. Please storm the heavens with me on behalf of my family.

May GOD bless each of you.

By HIS mercy and in the grip of HIS grace,

Andrea

Travel and Prayer Request

Thursday morning, we will leave for Pennsylvania. My husband, his cousin, his cousin's wife, and I will be going to a car show (Mustang's). Please pray for safe travel and sweet fellowship.

I am not sure if I will be able to post while I am away. I am taking my laptop, but I do not know whether I will have access to the Internet. I will miss each of you, but we will share fellowship soon.

Blessings and prayers,

Andrea

My Strength and Hope

Today, has proven to be a frustrating day. My laptop has been acting crazy. I could not get in to post, until now. Someone tried multiple times to send my facebook account a virus. I deleted, but the continued hassle was frustrating. My husband ran a virus scan and indeed my laptop is okay. I felt insecure about the process. My husband then called our computer person and friend, who reassured me....my computer should be fine.

The hassle of today, reminded me of fighting the enemy. He is sneaky. He doesn't normally waltz through the front door, but slimely slivers his way through the back. We must be prepared.

First, we must have a relationship with our Heavenly Father. Second, we must be in constant communion with HIM. Third, we must not allow anything or anyone to distract us from our LORD, His will, and His plan for our life.

"The Lord rescues the godly; He is their fortress in times of trouble." Psalm 37:39

"He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless." Isaiah 40:39

There is hope in these trying times.

"Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble and keep on praying." Romans 12:12

"I pray that GOD, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. " Romans 15:13

Finding hope in HIM,

Andrea

Life's Twists and Turns

It is my desire for life to be full of peace and happiness. Unfortunately, life does not always sing to the tune I choose. Drastically opposite, my life often takes many twists and turns. It is the norm for me to take the scenic route through life rather than the most direct route.

It may be windy and in some places a bit bumpy, but through all the twists, bends, and relentless bumping I have grown into the person I am today. Each of these places in life are a part of what makes me, me.

"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. " Isaiah 43:1b-2

I love these verses from Isaiah. They comfort my heart. I know when the wind is fiercely blowing or the road is extremely bumpy, I am not alone. My Heavenly Father is with me through every twist and turn.

Resting in my Heavenly Father's arms,

Andrea

Amazed

We look...
We gaze...
We wonder...

Amazed...

The tadpoles caught Savannah's eye. She squatted patiently for a long time watching them. Quiet and respectful she watched. Uncle Chase stayed close by and together they captured a glimpse of GOD's creation.

Sometimes, I miss the beautiful details in daily life. I run to quickly past them. This picture of Savannah and Chase at the pond reminded me of how special the details in life can be if we stop to enjoy them.

Amazed by HIS grace,

Andrea

My Journey

Everyday is a new day in my journey. I begin with eager expectation of peace, happiness, and love. Somewhere along the way I become discouraged. Some days are easier than others. When I believe I have a good grip on this journey called life, I stumble.

I suppose I am too naive. I have this grand notion everyone will eventually "get it" and begin to love and respect one another. Deep in my being is a longing for peace and harmony.

My extended family could be the poster child for "Dysfunctional Families." No matter the circumstances or loss, each member believes they are living appropriately and there is no need to change. Well, this is my perspective.

Our family has endured separation, tragedy, and still there is little togetherness. Recently, at my grandmother's funeral I became hopeful change would occur. A new beginning. Yes, there has been change. My sister and I have a wonderful relationship with our cousin, J. GOD has truly blessed us.

Yet, there are multiple other members of our family who seem content to disown or alienate themselves from us. Several of these folks are in the ministry. Yes, you heard me. They are serving GOD in churches or retired from service.

My sister and I take full credit for not being normal. We live outside the box. We are crazy and love everyone. We know no socio-economic or racial bounds. We have friends from all walks of life and all belief systems. Neither of us fit into most churches. We find ourselves fighting an uphill battle there, as well.

Last time I checked, Jesus was out ministering to the prostitutes, thieves, and others like them. He defended those who could not defend themselves and poured out love to the unloved. He is suppose to be our example.

Here is where I stumble: Often, I allow the actions of my family to distract my focus. Last night, I was unable to sleep thinking about the craziness abounding in my family. What happened to love? What happened to respect?

Clarity often comes in the morning. I can not change them. I must leave it in my Heavenly Father's hands. I am merely responsible for change needed in my own heart and life. My focus must no longer waver.

God has blessed me with a wonderful support system. I have learned much from each person within this system. Family is not always biological. Thank GOD for all of those in my adopted family.

Clinging to my Heavenly Father,

Andrea

Queen Of All Things

Yesterday, I dropped by one of my favorite bloggers site to find my daily dose of encouragement. I found far more than encouragement. Rosel, at Off The Beaten Trek gave me an "Aw-summ!!!" award, called "Queen Of All Things."

Honestly, I do not feel "aw-summ" nor do I feel I am "queen of all things." I have not felt well for sometime and yesterday was no different. Last night, I found myself miserable and awake. As I laid quietly beside my husband I began to ponder this award and how it fit into my life.

GOD spoke clearly through my physical pain: "Though you do not feel worthy of this award or capable.......I AM."

I was reminded of the "Aw-summness" of GOD and HIS power to use the words on my blog for HIS good will and purpose. In HIM, I can be queen and in HIM, I can do "aw-summ" things.

The rules for this award:

~List 7 things that make you awesome.

~Pass along to 7 bloggers you love.

~Link back to the queen who tagged you.

1)I love the Lord with all my heart!

2)I have a wonderful husband, who encourages me to write. He supports my efforts and wants only what is best for me.

3)My children (Biological and Adopted: Robin, Lauren, Seth, Chase, Wil) are the jewels in my crown.

4)Being a grandmother allows me the privilege of a "re-do" and I see more clearly what is important and what is not in raising or helping to raise a child. I cherish our little Savannah. GOD again in HIS wisdom and awesomeness has given me the strength to build a foundation of love and faith with our grandbaby.

5)My furry children keep me humble. Using them for dog therapy keeps me grounded. I am able to see GOD in a way I had never seen before.

6)My writing is a vehicle GOD uses to encourage others. I am still amazed when I receive comments of how a simple article spoke to someone. Truly, this is the "Awesomeness of GOD" through my pen.

7)I seek to be an awesome friend.

In each of these 7 areas I fall short, but through my Heavenly Father I seek "HIS" awesomeness!

I find it very difficult to pass this award to only 7 bloggers. Last night, I prayed God would help me choose the 7 who HE would choose. Congratulations to each of you. You are "aw-summ!!!"

1) Mary at Godly Graffiti. Mary encourages writers and pours out her vast knowledge to all who visit her blog.

2)Laurie at Super Natural Living. Laurie has a heart to reach the world for Christ and always encourages each of us who visit in our daily walk with the Lord.

3)Sheryl at We Are Never Alone. Sheryl reminds us we can live amidst the challenges of this world and face them boldly with confidence knowing our Heavenly Father will never abandon us.
4)Just Be Real. Just Be Real speaks from her heart. I began following her recently and have been touched by her honesty and sincerity.

5)Mid at Mid's Point. Mid stands boldly for the LORD. I am amazed as I read her posts. She exhibits strength as she proclaims GOD's message.

6)Patti at Attic Clutter. Patti always finds the cutest treasures to brighten my day.

7)Beautiful Self. Beautiful Self shares her faith and welcomes differing opinions and comments. She challenges each of us as we read her posts.

Blessings and prayers,

Andrea

Sharing

Last night during dinner, Savannah graciously shared her "corn on a stick" with O'Papa. She was devouring her second ear when she realized O'Papa was watching. She held up her ear for him to take a bite.

This morning, I reflected on her actions. She is 23 months old and already willing to share whatever she has with others. She does not know to be selfish. Then the thought occurred to me:

How can we keep her this way?

Furthermore, how can each of us maintain the example of sharing and giving unconditionally?

It seems easy, but most of us struggle some time or another with sharing. I like to think of myself as a very unselfish person, yet I know their are times when I am selfish. Let's all try to find the innocent, unselfish spirit inside of us today.

Blessings and prayers,

Andrea

Forgiveness

"The difference between holding on to a hurt or releasing it with forgiveness is the difference between laying your head at night on a pillow filled with thorns or a pillow filled with rose petals."
Loren Fischer

I am confronted daily with the choice to forgive. Early in my life, GOD allowed me to learn a valuable lesson about forgiveness. My youngest sister was tragically killed at age 17. Hours after her death, I was asked to go into the ER room with the young man responsible for her death. The nurse said, "he is very upset and he has no family here."

My entire family looked at me. I was 22 years old, but clearly had the strongest faith and ability to handle difficult situations. I rose and followed the nurse. Just before entering, I whispered aloud, "help me GOD..because I want to kill him."
The nurse looked at me, but continued to pull the curtain and enter.

As I entered, he began screaming at me, "I killed her, I killed her."

Immediately, I said, "I forgive you."

I know those words came from my Heavenly Father through my mouth. At the time, I did not have the strength to do it on my own. I am thankful GOD allowed me to be placed in this situation. If I had not been there, forgiveness on my part might not have happened. Forgiveness led to healing and healing led to a healthier life for me.

I share this morsel from my past hoping it will help someone else take the necessary steps to a healthier life. Lack of forgiveness only hurts the person who is bitter and angry. When we forgive, we are not saying what the person did was okay.

My desire, after forgiveness was for the offender to become a better person. Nothing could bring back my sister. I do not know where my sister's killer is today, but I pray he is living a happy and healthy life. I pray his life was changed for good. I pray the beginning of good things to come from her tragedy started with him.

Clinging to my Heavenly Father,

Andrea

Memorial Day

Today, we remember all those who have served our country and thank those who continue to serve. Whether you agree with war or you are opposed, we are given the privilege of freedom because each of these individuals made/make a huge sacrifice.

As we reflect and pray for the families affected, I will honor my husband's father, James Bolling Perdue, who died November 11, 1944 in Germany (The Battle of the Bulge). My husband was a baby and only has pictures of he and his Dad. He does not remember him. Through the years, He has depended on others for stories about his father's personality and other traits. He clings and treasures each morsel.

My husband is now 66 years old. He has a tender heart for all the children left behind. He understands their feelings and prays for them daily.

Remembering,

Andrea

Slow Down

God often uses many unique situations to get my attention. I call them 2X4 moments, because I often do not respond until the "2X4" swings through the air. In other words, it takes enormous situations to get my full attention or change my mind.

For years, my husband has urged me to slow down coming into our drive way. I always respond by saying, "I am not going that fast." It is a straight driveway and I can see in front of me. I did not understand why there was a problem with the speed I came into the driveway. Why does he want me to creep up the driveway like an old lady?

Several weeks ago, we were out late. Doug met me at a play. He had our youngest son, Wil and one of his friends. Taylor. After the play, Doug took Taylor to her house and I journeyed on to ours.

As I entered our driveway at my normal rate of speed, three of the biggest deer I have ever seen JUMPED right in front of me. I was able to stop. Shocked, I sat there. Echoing in my mind were Doug's words, "you really need to slow down coming into the driveway."

Echoing even louder was GOD's voice, "Slow down." I have run through life trying to make everyone happy and accomplish great things for many years. In this "2X4 moment", I realized I have often rushed past the beauty of GOD's creation and the pleasures He has for me. I have been consumed with too many different things.

Since my late night experience, I have pondered much. God protected me and He lovingly protected the three magnificent deer. He has much more to teach me and I eagerly await the new adventures He will lay before me.

Let's all slow down and enjoy GOD's creation. Let's be safe and recognize GOD's voice when HE speaks.

Blessings and prayers,

Andrea

God's Protection

Monday, my husband spent the morning planting two new rose bushes. He worked carefully preparing the the holes to prevent the voles from eating the roots of his new roses. As he worked, our 23 month old grand baby played close by.

Soon it was time for Savannah to come inside and Doug needed another tool from the garage. As he returned to work on his rose garden, he was shocked. He could not believe the vision laying before him. In the place where Savannah had been playing was a copperhead. It was over two feet long and over an inch in diameter.

We are extremely blessed. Certainly, our Heavenly Father was protecting Savannah and everyone who came close to this poisonous snake. We are praising GOD for His protection.

How many times does danger lurk close by and we do not know it? We must be on guard. We need a keen eye and a deep faith. We also must remember, our precious GOD is greater than any situation that may arise in our lives.

Praising GOD for divine protection,

Andrea

God's Comfort Through Us

"God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled we will be able to give them the same comfort He has given us." 2Corinthians 1:3b-4

Lately, I have been bombarded with prayer requests. Each request full of heartache, pain, hopelessness, and deep despair. More than ever, I am aware of the tragic circumstances in others lives. My heart breaks for each of the individuals and families these request affect.

During my prayer time I read the verse from 2 Corinthians 1:33b-4 (above). I began to read it over and over, each time becoming more aware of my duty to pass along the comfort God pours out in my life to those hurting.

How do I accomplish such a seemingly big task? Where do I begin? Can I really make a difference?

As I ponder these questions, I realize I am obligated to love and encourage those in my path. God gives us the example. It is to be a way of life not an occasional occurrence.

Sometimes, encouraging others means making ourselves vulnerable. Some of my past is painful, yet often GOD prompts me to share it. In turn, I am able to encourage someone else facing the same or similar circumstances.

Today, as I journey forward I pray for GOD's unveiling of my sometimes blind eye to those in my path. Journey forward with me, recognizing everyday is a "new day" on the path of life.

By HIS mercy and in the grip of HIS grace,

Andrea

Beautiful Inside and Out

For a week, I have struggled to breath (severe allergies and asthma). I have tried to keep up with life despite being sick. By Friday, I became frustrated and miserable. As I began reading the blogs I follow looking for a glimmer of encouragement I found much more.

Yesterday, God spoke to me through every blog I visited. Upon arriving at two different blogs I was given an award: You are Beautiful Inside and Out! Most days I do not feel very beautiful inside and out and certainly yesterday was one of them. These two sisters and many more have become prayer warriors, friends, and much more. Each of them touch my heart when I visit their blogs. They speak honestly, boldly, and deeply from within their being. They reach far beyond the norm of blogging and truly care about their followers. I am not a number to them. The genuineness you will find at these blogs will overwhelm you. Please stop by and visit them. Perhaps GOD will lead you to follow, as well.

Humble As I Go

Heart 2 Heart

As I pondered and prayed about passing this award to five bloggers who are beautiful on the inside and out God spoke to me. Each person who follows my blog fits this category. There is truly no way to choose. Today, I give this to each of you. I pray you will post it on your blog. You are all valuable in GOD's eyes. You are treasures of encouragement in my life. Thank you to each of my followers. May GOD bless each of you. May He use you in ways beyond your imagination.

Serving GOD with you,

Andrea

"Crossroads" of Life

We live amidst a diverse group of people. I love visiting our favorite Richmond coffee shop (Crossroads Coffee and Ice Cream) for this reason. I love and cherish the environment. Today, I share a few thoughts from my last visit.

All singing songs from every avenue and venue.

The music and melodies of each soul pierce my heart.

Colors of the rainbow abound.

The music plays echoing the the hearts of many.

I in my sweatshirt...he in his jeans.

Dappled diamonds daze the crowd. Who are we?

From the rising of the sun til the setting of the ultimate day when we all dance together on the streets of gold.

Magic plays on the hearts as the coat of many colors is woven at the "Crossroads" of life.

Today, I am thankful for the diversity of friends GOD has placed in my life. I praise GOD for HIS giving me the blessing of many. May GOD bless each of you as you reach out to those around you, embracing and enjoying your differences.

Blessed to be me,

Andrea

Grandmother's Heart

Pop and Grandmother Bowling and Grandchildren
(approximately 1972)

1963- Written by Ruth Bowling

I’ve tried for many a hour and a minute
to imagine this world without me in it.

I cannot think of a newborn day
without me in it somehow someway.

I can’t imagine an Autumn flare
without me here- alive- aware.

I cannot think of a dawn in Spring
without my heart awakening.

These treasured years will come and go.
With swifter pace, but this I know
I have NO fear, I have NO dread
of that numbered day that lies ahead.

My flesh will turn to ash and clay,
But I’ll be here- somehow, someway.

The body is a perishable thing, but not so the soul. God, through his Son, Jesus Christ, has told us this.
We will live on. How and where is determined by the way we live on earth, while the body and soul exist as one.

While cleaning out some of my Grandmother Bowling's possessions, my cousin found this poem. It was written three years before I was born, while my grandparents still lived on their 600 plus acre dairy farm in upstate South Carolina. My grandmother was raised in an orphanage and spent most of her 92 years struggling emotionally. She was a brilliant woman with many academic and public accomplishments.

I am thankful to have a copy of this poem. It enables me to glimpse deep into the heart of my grandmother. I share it with each of you today as an example of faith and GOD's healing. Many times we do not know what lies within the heart of our love ones.

Love, Blessings and prayers,

Andrea

New Beginnings

"So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like rain, Like the spring rain watering the earth." Hosea 6:3

Lately, we have experienced "lots" of rain in Richmond, Virginia. Even though we needed this rain, many complained about the inconvenience of sloshing around like a duck. On a few occasions, I joined the complainers.

Pondering this passage brought me to my knees. I enjoy the blessings of God's creation, yet many times I am spoiled and selfishly do not want to be inconvenienced. My focus wavers and I find myself enjoying the material, earthly benefits of being a child of GOD and complaining when it does not suite me.

Where should my focus be? Do I make the needed changes in my life? Am I serious and deliberate in making those changes? Exactly where are my priorities?

My focus should be worshiping my Heavenly Father and focusing on the eternal benefits. Thankfully, today is a new day and GOD gives each of us the chance to start anew.

Blessings and prayers on your journey with your Heavenly Father,

Andrea

Mother's Day Blessings

Being a mother and grandmother are the greatest joys in my life. I love hearing the giggles and laughter when all the kids are together. I am truly blessed to have a blended family with two adopted children where love abounds. My husband and I often joke saying, "they may not like us, but they always love each other." Praise GOD for the blessings of our wonderful children: Robin (25), Lauren (22), Seth (22), Chase (20), Wil (16), and our precious grandbaby, Savannah Faith (23 months).

Mother's day represents happiness with my own children, yet a little sadness for myself. My mother was 15 years old when I was born, a child giving birth to a child. Primarily my grandparents raised me and are responsible for the person I am today. My grandmother died when I was 12 and my grandfather when I was 15.

My mother has always been in my life, but not in the role of a true mother. We appeared "normal" to the outside world, yet on the inside things were oddly displaced. My sister nor I blame our mother for her inability to be "motherly" to us. We love her and accept the situation in it's current state.

I have never written about my mother, until today. I pray GOD will grow her into the person He created her to be and fulfill the the longings of her heart.

Blessings and prayers,

Andrea

A Beautiful Husband

Doug, Andrea, and Savannah Faith, Our First Grandbaby!

"....each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." Ephesians 5:31

God is definitely a God of second chances. I suffered through a 17 year marriage of pain and heartache at every turn. With divorce came tremendous baggage. It has taken years to overcome the damage to my heart.

Soon after my divorce, GOD gave me a wonderful man, who loves and cherishes me. Most importantly, Doug loves the Lord with all his heart and soul. Ideally, I should have received counseling after my divorce and before entering into another relationship. However, God's plan was different for me. He chose to show me through the gentle hands of the person he placed in my life.

Doug and I support each other in "all" things. He loves to fish and I love to sit on the bank or in the boat with him with my Bible, journal, and pen. We do "everything" together. Early in our relationship, I realized meeting his needs was not difficult. He made it easy for me, because he lovingly supported my dreams and desires.

God always blesses our time together, our journey, and our ministry. We love people and we love our animals. GOD quickly gave us a ministry using our dogs. We are the proud doggie parents to three Therapy Dog's, Sitka, Nanuq, and Trouble. We use them to encourage patients, to perform needed physical therapy, participate in group meetings (psychiatric), and much, much more. For more information on our Therapy Dogs go to: All GOD's Creatures.

My husband awakes happy every morning. I am privileges to live with someone who dances on rainbows with his Heavenly Father. He sees the good in me when I can not see it myself. He encourages me to write and pursue my dreams. Today, I confess if he were not in my life I would not be blogging or publishing other works. I would likely have remained curled in the corner somewhere. GOD knows just what we need and when we need it. Thank you, GOD for giving me a beautiful husband with a heart full of love.

Blessed to be loved,

Andrea

Colton: The Blue Box "Update"

Colton is enjoying his homebound lessons and doing well. He is facing another difficult issue, in his life. His "Grammy" has become ill. She was diagnosed with lymphoma last week. Colton and his family are praying diligently, but honestly they are struggling with the battle they are facing. Colton is praying for a miracle for "Grammy."

Colton celebrated his 12th birthday this past weekend with 3 of his friends and family. Colton and his Mom prepared and decorated his Mario cake, giving them very valuable one on one time together.

Colton's birthday wish was for "Grammy to be well." We pray Colton's birthday wish will come true. Thank you, prayer warriors for storming the heavens on behalf of Colton and his family.

Continuing to storm the heavens with prayers,

Andrea

God's Ultimate Healing

"But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture." Malachi 4:2

God's ultimate healing is our choice. Trusting GOD with our lives equals hope for the future. We are responsible for our own choices. We can not make others change.

Imagine heaven, "we will go free leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture." Have you ever witnessed a fold or calf let out to pasture? They leap and frolic with such abandoned freedom. It's as if they do not have a care in this world.

I long for the day when I am able to frolic in my new body.

Eagerly waiting,

Andrea

Uniquely Designed

"The farmer knows just what to do, God has given him understanding." Isaiah 28:26

Each farmer takes special care to work the soil, weed, fertilize, and give proper attention to his herbs. He knows each one and exactly what it needs. God treats us the same way. He is gentle, loving, and kind. He uses tender, loving hands and sensitively deals with each of us. God created each of us uniquely and he interacts with us accordingly.

I must remember to consider the differences of others in light of GOD's design. I am crazy, outspoken, yet sensitive. I do not fit a mold carved out by others. I must not expect my friends and family to fit a preconceived mold. I must take special care to cultivate relationships, embracing differences and loving with a tender heart of compassion.

Growing in grace,

A Day In Shady Grove

Yesterday, four writer friends and I set out on a journey to find the writer's conference we planned to attend. With map quest in hand, a cooler filled with liquid refreshment, and my SUV, we left Richmond heading for Shady Grove Baptist Church, Orange, Virginia.

Our journey blessed us with the presence of large cattle farms, rolling hills, and the quiet gentleness only found in the country. With breathtaking views and a peaceful drive, time seemed to have escaped us. Though we did not grow up in Orange, Virginia, there was a sense of home.

As my friends found their way around the building, I discovered a quiet spot in the hallway. Alone, I sat down...the presence of GOD clearly present. God's words to me flowed clearly through my pen:

Welcome home, dear child.
Leaving the hustle and bustle of the city.
Finding Shady Grove nestled in the foothills of Virginia.
A welcome site to at least one of the five busy ladies making the trek from Richmond to the country.

Early we arrived.
Buildings empty.
No people in site.
Quiet.
Oh, so quiet.
I love the sound.

Breaking free from a mold imposed by the past,
Spurring comfort within my heart.
Sweet peace sitting on periwinkle carpet,
Tucked in a hallway.

Today's a new day.
A new life.
A new Generation.
Healing and hope we find.

My friends scattered or did they find their own special place to soak in the presence of Almighty God.

To have and to hold the extra measure of grace, mercy, and love given this day.

Assembled as one.
One in praise.
One in Power.
one in love.

Created to be free.
Created to be one.
Free to be me.

Soaking in HIS presence,

Andrea

The Blue Box: Update and Praise

Colton begins today with encouragement and praise. He received an honorable mention for art work submitted to Spartanburg County Water Works. It seems Colton is quite the artist. His award and art work will be mailed to his parents. Mom and Dad plan to frame and display his achievement in their home.

Colton will likely begin the home bound process on Monday. His physician and parents prepared the proper paperwork earlier this week. The school system is in the process of implementing this plan for the remaining weeks of school. Mom is also planning a trip to the local zoo with Colton.

Colton's parents have received three letters from the first attorney they spoke with in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He encourages the family to push forward with the an attorney specializing in educational issues, saying, "there is a solid case." It seemed GOD had a plan from the very beginning to secure the representation Colton deserves. What seemed like yet another road block became a blessing.

I continue to stand amazed as my fellow brothers and sisters around the globe storm the heavens with prayer. Please continue to pray for all involved, but most especially for Colton.

Thankful to serve GOD with you,

Andrea

Praise and Continued Prayer: The Blue Box

Praising GOD for answered prayers after days of frustration, heartache, and pain. Colton has a solid case as told by several legal stand points, experts, and special education teachers. From this point on I will no longer share details of Colton's treatment or the case. I will give updates of prayer.

Colton is beginning the healing process with his family. Please continue to pray for Colton. I have no doubt God will use this experience in Colton's life to grow him stronger and wiser. He will learn how to treat and value others and how to pursue his goals, as well as stand up for himself and others in a respectful manner. He will rise above his mistreatment and become the person GOD created him to be.

I stand amazed as you, my christian brothers and sisters have poured your hearts out to our Heavenly Father on Colton's behalf. Please continue to bombard the heavens with your prayers. GOD BLESS each of you!!

Serving GOD together,

Andrea

Colton's Cry: The Blue Box

Abuse in rural South Carolina school.

Behind The Blue Box

Last Friday, April 17Th, 2009, "The Blue Box" brought new meaning to abuse within a school system.

Today, I return to you asking for continued prayers. The local news media was to meet and interview the family at 11:30 AM to cover Colton's story. Instead, the media representative called Colton's mother and said, "The district office told us Colton's treatment was within the guidelines of his IEP and we will NOT be covering your story at this time."

Once again, this family is crushed and devastated. With more lies and an obvious cover-up, I come to you in outrage. The treatment Colton has endured is abusive and unhealthy. He deserves a quality education in a safe learning environment. This child will likely need counseling to grow beyond this event.

It is my desire to give voice to Colton. He deserves the best. He is a beautiful child who needs our help. Please help me give voice to Colton!

Thank you for your continued prayer support.

Update: The Blue Box

Isolation as punishment in rural South Carolina school.

Behind "The Blue Box"

Late Friday, I posted a story about a friend's child being place in an isolated area called, "The Blue Box" as a form of punishment for hours at school.

Earlier today, the family met with a local attorney. He told them he no longer handles this type case. Why wasn't she told this on Friday when she made the appointment? It is critical for this family to get accurate advice and specialized representation. On Friday, there was mention of truancy. They clearly want them to back down and disappear.

Today, I come to you with a heavy heart for this family. They are discouraged! Please pray for guidance, direction, peace, comfort and love. Thank you for your continued prayers. GOD BLESS each of you.

Serving GOD together,

Andrea

The Blue Box

Isolation from teacher and other students in rural South Carolina School!

Behind the blue box!

Today has been an emotional day. I learned last night a friend's child had been punished in a way I deem harmful to his emotional health. Her eleven year old son who has dyslexia was repeatedly placed in/behind the blue wall (the children call the blue box) for hours day after day for punishment. When my friend approached the teacher and principle they could not or would not give her an answer as to what he had done, yet both agreed the punishment was acceptable. My friend does not tolerate bad behavior and wants her child properly disciplined, however this method is clearly harmful. He was also placed in silent lunch and had no recess for Wednesday and Thursday. Still she had no answers!

No answers for punishment of this kind and only justifications, she called the district office and there got no real help. She withdrew her son from school on Thursday around noon and took him straight to the doctor. Her son told his physician while in tears, "I am just retarded...there is no hope for me." The physician has given my friend an excuse for school for the next couple of days stating: Emotional Distress at school.

My christian sisters and brothers, I am outraged. I grew up in a family of educators and have many friends who are educators, none of whom would resort to this method of isolation as a form of punishment with a child. This method is archaic at best and in my opinion is clearly abusive.

Please pray for this family, but most especially this precious child. Pray he will be healed, restored, and become the triumphant human being GOD created him to be. I am confident GOD has awesome plans for this young boy and will use this experience for HIS good will and purpose.

Continued prayers for resolve and healing,

Andrea

Lily Among Thistles

"I am the spring crocus blooming on the Sharon Plain, the lily of the valley. Like a lily among thistles is my darling among young women." Song of Songs 2:1-2

These tender verses from GOD's word speak volumes to each of us. The young girl did not feel as though she was special in any way. She referred to herself as common by comparing herself to flowers that grow all over Israel. Solomon disagreed saying, "lily among thistles." Solomon obviously felt no one compared to her.

God gave us eyes for the person He chose to be our spouse. Today, I am reminded how important it is for me to tell the one I love how special he is to me. I am thankful for his gentle spirit and his loving heart. I praise GOD for bringing him into my life.

When was the last time you shared your heart with the one you love? Begin again today and bless that special someone with the words most tenderly heard from your lips.

With a tender heart,

Andrea

Uniquely Designed

"Then GOD said, "Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind." So GOD created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird-each producing offspring of the same kind. And GOD saw that it was good." Genesis 1:20-21

I am fascinated with the intricacy, wondrous beauty, and detail of GOD's creation. I am especially drawn to the vast beauty of the ocean's sea creatures. The detail and seemingly perfectness of it all draws my attention. I love to visit aquariums and simply gaze at the animals. Time is lost for me as I ponder the life of each creature.

GOD obviously loved each of these creatures. He gave them magnificent beauty and made them in complex uniqueness. The colors on each of their bodies span the rainbow. It is only fitting for me to find application for my life during these visits.

GOD made me unique and loves me far beyond my comprehension. He has given me strengths and allowed weaknesses to mold me into the person He created me to be. He has given me a variety of friends so beautiful they span the colors of the rainbow and just as carefully as He placed the sea creatures in the ocean, He carefully placed me in the life I live today.

Growing in GOD's grace,

Andrea

New Beginnings

"How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog-it's here a little while, then it's gone. What you ought to say is, "If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that." Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it." James 4:14-17

Our lives are limited and there are no guarantees. Are we making the most of the gifts GOD has given us? Are we living life to the fullest? Are we living out a life of obedience?

Today, we are reminded of yet another truth: Being disobedient and sinful is not always doing what we know to be wrong. Sin is also NOT doing what GOD asks of us. It is hard to think of sin as not going the extra mile or giving a little extra to someone in need.

Sin can also be not writing when GOD clearly calls us to write and share HIS word with others. Okay, so now I am tromping all over my own feet. There are times when I am tired and frustrated and I simply close the computer. I know what GOD wants me to share, yet I willingly walk away.

Thank GOD for HIS mercy, grace, and a chance for new beginnings. Begin anew with me today. Obey the Father and enjoy your journey.

Serving GOD with you,

Andrea

With Repentance Comes Healing

"Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin." Psalm 51:12

David is crying out to GOD in this Psalm; he is truly sorry for his actions. Time and time again, we find ourselves flat on our face before the Lord in deep remorse for our sinful actions. When we come to GOD with our broken hearts He will forgive.

There is hope, with repentance comes healing. When we are truly sorry, GOD forgives and restores our fellowship with Him. Many times our actions cause us to live with consequences, however, upon repentance our relationship with our Heavenly Father is no longer broken.

As we look upon the cross tomorrow, I pray we will recognize the forgiveness and healing available to each of us. God does not want us to live in the pain and misery of our broken state. He is ready, willing, and able to heal our hearts.

Visiting the Great Physician,

Andrea

Memories...

Whistling Grandfather
Walks in the evening sun...
Hand in hand they go
Together each day
Days unending
No care by either
Consumed in their own world
Sweet little sight...
Protected
Sheltered
Complete with love
Tempered by grace
Symbols of faith
Awesome streaming hope
Playfully guiding
Memories past down
Cherished to this day
Time on earth
Ending early
Time in the heart
Without end

In Loving memory of my grandfather, Charles Aaron Coates.

Trouble to Hope

Tired, weary
Worn and beaten down
Traveled to my homeland
Renewed, revived.
Strangers once
Hearts now entwined.

"I will return her vineyards to her and transform the Valley of Trouble into a gateway of hope. She will give herself to me there, as she did long ago when she was young, when I freed her from her captivity in Egypt." Hosea 2:15

In this passage, GOD took Israel to the desert to communicate hope without distractions. GOD loves his children and desires the very best for each of us. He often uses painful experiences to bring about growth and change in our lives.

For me, traveling to South Carolina this past week was the desert. I knew GOD wanted me to go, but deep inside I had many fears. However, GOD always proves Himself faithful.

True to form, I was blindsided by the real reason I was there, until the night before we left to come home. GOD healed my heart while healing the heart of another at the same time.

Over the years, I had prayed, sought God's will, and Godly counsel regarding issues within my family and the lack of relationship between all parties. With so much pain and heart ache it seemed hopeless. In the last few years, I had reached out with cards and letters, but still no response.

As a result of my Grandmother's death some of the family came together for the services. All parties were not present, but many came. During our time together, GOD formed a bond between a few of us only HE could will and accomplish. As a result, GOD turned the "Valley of Trouble into a gateway of hope."

Hope abounds in the hearts of a few of us and we pray it will be contagious to others within our family. We pray that each member will reach for the true source of hope, our Heavenly Father.

Living in the "gateway of hope,"

Andrea

Human Praise

"Do not love this world or the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are NOT from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever." 1John 2:16-17

Lately, I have received much praise regarding my writing, blogs, and other areas of my life. It is easy for me to be prideful and get caught up in the moment. I love to write and I love the fact that it comes naturally to me. However, I must be clear to each of my readers and followers:

The words you read or good deeds you may see are not me or mine. I am only the vehicle GOD chooses to use to share HIS love with you. I could not be more thankful for the gift of writing and a tender heart, but I know it is not my own. My heart is in constant struggle with the flesh over these beautiful gifts.

Praising GOD through word and prayer,

Andrea

Spanish Dart Award

Thank you to RCUBES at Off The Beaten Trek for blessing Arise 2 Write with this award. I am overjoyed and overwhelmed.

What exactly is the award? I share RCUBES explanation: Premio Dardos means “prize darts” in Spanish. It is given for recognition of cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values transmitted in the form of creative and original writing.

Here are some rules to be followed if you choose to participate in passing this blog award on to others:

• First, accept the award by posting it on your blog along with the name of the person that has granted the award and link to her blog.

• Second, pass the award to other blogs that are worthy of this acknowledgment, remembering to contact each of them to let them know they have been selected for this award.

Here is a blog that I think you'll agree meet this criteria:

*Mary at Crayon Chronicles shares life applications through events in the lives of the children she loves and cares for.

Get Involved

"When Abram heard that his nephew Lot had been captured, he mobilized the 318 trained men who had been born into his household. Then he pursued Kedorlaomer's army until he caught up with them at Dan." Genesis 14:14

How many times in families and relationships do we look the other way when someone is in need, pain, or trouble? My family has looked the other way far too long.

God gives us exactly what we need to help others; He prepares the way before us. Abram heard his nephew Lot was in trouble and he immediately took action. He did not fret over what others in his family would think or how his actions would look to others. He simply stepped out in faith to help his nephew.

My prayer goes with each of you as you step out in faith, standing firmly on GOD's promises. He will never leave you, nor forsake you. He is faithful to prepare the way before you. You will not be alone as you step out in your family to pursue GOD's will.

It's a new day in the neighborhood of life. We stand boldly as we seek the good will of our families. God bless each of you on life's journey.

Learning to love like Christ,

Andrea

Celebrating The Victory of Death

"For the Lord Most High is awesome, He is the great King of all the earth. He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet. He chose the promise land as our inheritance, the proud possession of Jacob's descendants, whom he loves." Psalm 47:2-4

It is impossible to describe how awesome GOD is with words, yet we have an obligation to share HIS greatness with others. We should begin by sharing what we know in our hearts to be true about ALMIGHTY GOD.

Last Saturday, my Grandmother Bowling ended her earthly struggle with emotional and physical pain and ascended into her Heavenly Father's arms. She spent 92 years in a body tormented by the demon's of her past, forever affecting and entire family. For many years those demons were allowed to rip our family limb from limb. Each member of our family has carried the affects of our Grandmother's scarred childhood with them throughout their lives.

Though many will not admit it, we carry strong values and traits because of our Grandmother's affect on our lives. Each child and grandchild values knowledge and education; we strive for perfection in all areas of our lives.

There has never been a closeness in the Bowling family. Because of the dynamics within our family, the grandchildren were not allowed to be close. We were robbed of the relationship "each of us" secretly longed for, daily.

Our Grandmother genetically left some of us an inner strength and a boldness most individuals do not embody. Our personalities are strong; we are stubborn and outspoken. Each of us work daily to use these qualities in a positive way, rather than negatively harming those in our path.

Today, I could not be more thankful for each of these qualities. Because my sister and I share these traits with our cousin Jennifer, GOD in HIS infinite wisdom brought us together through difficult circumstances. Jennifer now shares a bond with Courtney and I no one can destroy. The enemy has now lost his foothold in one more life. At ages 42, 40, and 28, we will begin anew. Courtney and I do not have a cousinly bond with Jennifer, we have a new sister to love and cherish!

Geographically we are far apart, however, our hearts are forever united. A healing beyond description took place as a result of our Grandmother's death and we are praising GOD for the opportunity He laid before us.

It is our prayer many others within our family will surrender their hurt and pain to a Heavenly Father who heals, protects, loves, and restores. Jennifer, Courtney, and I long for the sons, daughter in laws, and other grandchildren to find the peace, happiness, and healing we now share.

Celebrating the victory of death,

Andrea
