The Old Stone Church

Our trip to Carlisle, Pennsylvania was beautiful. We began in Richmond, Virginia and traveled through West Virginia and Maryland into Pennsylvania via the scenic route. We saw many cows, horses, silo's, rolling hills, mountains, and an old stone church.

The old stone church sat close to the road in rural Virginia. The only remnant of life was the lonely vine growing up the side wall. The beautiful stone structure sat alone amongst the trees and weeds.

We passed the church by as many others do on a daily ritual to "somewhere." The building seem to cry out to me. It's beauty amazing and it's structural strength intact. Neither the rain or cool air hindered the beauty of this old stone church.

Where did the people go? and why?

How could people leave this roadside haven of tattered beauty?

By HIS mercy and in the grip of HIS grace,

Andrea

I love traveling by car, too because I enjoy seeing different scenery, be it fields, orchards and name it. That's interesting that the structure was left all alone. Where did the "church" go, the body of believers? Glad you had a wonderful trip! God bless you sister!

I, too, wonder who worshipped there? How did they worship? I love those old church buildings. Sounds like the weather was nice and cool. Did you take pictures?

BTW, it is very unfortunate that the beautiful stone church is now empty and unused.

Hi Andrea,
I've seen you at Pattys and just wanted to say hi.
I love old churches. I'm always sad to see when one is totally run down and empty, but still see the beauty in it. My sister is trying to buy an old one in Minnesota that is abandoned and she wants to move her quilt shop into it and actually live there. I pray it works out for her.
Lovely pictures here and look forward to reading more.

Hi Andrea,
I can imagine how beautiful everything must be, and the perfect season of the year to be in.

Your post about the abandoned old stone church saddened me.

Do you have a photo of it?
