To Worry or Not To Worry

"And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They do not worry or make their clothing. Yet Solomon and all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?" Matthew 6:28-30

Many times we worry about things that never come to pass. We waste valuable time allowing our minds to be distracted with worry. Many years ago, I wrote in the front of my Bible, "If you are going to worry...don't pray, if you are going to pray...don't worry!"

I can not tell you how many times GOD has taken me back to the front of my Bible reminding me of this simple truth. Over and over again, I slip back into the old habit of worrying.

With many gentle reminders from my Lord, I have become better at leaving my problems or perceived problems at HIS feet. Over the years, I have inched along in my spiritual growth.

Matthew reminds us of the love GOD has for us. He does not want us to waste our time worrying about worldly possessions or the potential stormy times in life. He longs for us to focus on HIM and leave our welfare in HIS hands.

This year, the lilies in my yard have been more beautiful than ever. Daily, I have witnessed the unveiling of the words in this passage. One Lily dies and another blooms, giving me hope for tomorrow and faith for eternity.

Resting in HIS arms,

Andrea

Reminds me of a quote my Youth Pastor used to say, "Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it doesn't get you anywhere."

A waste of good energies and time, doesn't it?

Wow Andrea this is a great post and one that has ALWAYS spoken to me since my early years of accepting Christ! I have to say, in most situations the Holy Spirit brings this to mind but this time my mind and heart have clearly worried about the storms my dad is facing. Thankyou.....I know it is not necessary, and HE knows my heart. I am surrendering daily at times!
Thankyou for your prayers and constant words of encouragement and hope whether it be a comment or a post of your own! You are precious!

Being humans, we are still vulnerable to our previous habits. But thank you for reminding us today how much God truly love us. The pictures are so beautiful, the only thing missing is the "scent" :) God bless sister Andrea. I just want to say a quick "Hi". I just got home from work and it was a busy night. Love and blessings to you.

Andrea, the flowers remind me of the beauty wrapped in the rainforest that I love. And God's promises, always drench me in His goodness. Praise the Lord I don't have to worry. Each time I look at a flower this week, your words and His faithfulness will splash me.

What beautiful lilies you posted on your blog, and to think they grow right in your garden!

And what beautiful reminders of God's faithfulness, too!

Thank you for this post, dear Andrea. It is a timely reminder. One I needed to hear today.

Lovely lilies! Mine don't look quite like yours.

Your message: timely and timeless.

Thanks for an easy-to-read explication of that passage.

I know! I have the same struggle. I heard a speaker say once that worry was the illusion of control....kinda bit me in the backside! I like how Martha put it....we waste VALUABLE time on that little activity!

With so many things to worry about in this world it is hard not to worry. LOL
I do try not to worry any more than I have to. I know it is wrong and I guess I don't really "worry". I just get a little too "concerned" sometimes.
Have a great week.
