Words Are Powerful

Words are powerful. One word can change us for a lifetime!

Last night, I opened Arise 2 Write and began reading comments. As I neared the end, I read:

Paul H said...

"Dear Andrea and family. I am very touched from reading this article and about your trip to Schuyler. I am Earl Hamners brother Paul and I am sending this to him because I know he will love to read about your life and interest. God bless you and your family and happy holidays. Regards Paul Hamner Toms River NJ"

My eyes filled with tears as I read this comment. Earl Hamner's brother, Paul took time from his life to read my article and share from his heart.

Thank you, Paul Hamner! Your words touch me, deeply. I am once again, overwhelmed. I am currently floating around on a cloud over your beloved Virginia. Hopefully, someone will soon get me down before I fall and hurt myself.

Today, I must prepare for two trips. I leave Friday, around 6:00 AM for rural South Carolina. Last April, after my Grandmother Bowling's funeral, I was able to reconnect with one of my cousins, Jennifer. She and I formed and instant bond. Our lives were forever changed. We are adults and will not allow family bondage to further separate us.

Jennifer and her husband struggled to conceive. Doug and I began praying for them during our trip. A month or so after returning to Richmond, I received a phone call. Jennifer shared, "I am pregnant. I am telling our parents and you and Doug until we see the doctor and know everything is going to be okay."

Soon Jennifer shared the news with everyone. Our next celebration came with the news she will deliver a little girl the end of December or early January. I asked, what will her name be?

Jennifer replied, "Payden Hope."

I replied, "Hope is my middle name."

Jennifer replied, "That is why we chose it."

On several occasions, the thought of this precious new life sharing my name has brought me to tears. Payden's life symbolizes a new beginning for our family. One where generational bondage is being broken down and cast away.

I am excited to spend this weekend with my family in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of her baby shower and celebrate the life God is placing in their care.

Upon returning late Sunday evening or early Monday morning, I will again begin a new journey. My husband, Doug and Sitka, our Alaskan Malamute will be taking me on a mountain get a way.

Realizing Mom needs a mountain retreat, they planned a visit in Shenandoah National Park. There will be no phones, no television, and no internet. Our days will be spend enjoying GOD's beautiful creation.

I look forward to sharing my adventures with each of you, when I return.

Blessed beyond belief,

Andrea

Mountain Surprise

The Hamner Homeplace/The Walton's Homeplace

God simply out did Himself on Sunday. Doug and I wandered through the mountains of Virginia. We were most certainly on a scenic drive, off the beaten path (State Route 810). We pulled to the side of the road many times a long our journey to take pictures. There was really no need to pull of the road, because through most of the drive there was little to no traffic. It was as if we were alone with GOD on our journey.

As we wandered through the valley around hills and across creeks we crested a new hill and there it was, "The Walton Home-place" Home of Earl Hamner's family and the basis for his television show, "The Walton's."

I squealed with excitement. My husband knows my deep love for "The Waltons." He graciously stopped the SUV and let me out. I took pictures and gazed at the small home on the side of Schuyler Mountain. The leaves on our journey were breathtaking. The quaint home stood tall and strong, as if waiting to be seen from afar.

I thanked my husband for taking this route. It was his idea to venture off the beaten path. I told him as we traveled on, "any other blessing on our journey is simply icing on the cake, for me."

Many of you may be too young to remember "The Walton's" or maybe you like other styles of programs, but for me, Earl Hamner made a profound impact on my life, through his television series. As I grew up watching John-boy struggle with his passion to write and embrace the gift GOD gave him, I accepted the call for my own life. A call to write. Each of us are designed to grow and embrace our gifts.

I began writing very young. Like John-boy, I did not share it with anyone, but I continued to write. My passion deep and the longing in my soul far and wide, I embraced the gift of writing and never looked back.

For me, writing is something I need. It makes me whole. It makes me a better wife, mom, and friend.

Thank you, GOD for the passion you have placed in my heart and thank you, Earl Hamner for passionately pursing your gift.

"What is impossible with man, is possible with GOD." Matthew 19:26b

Filled with HIS love,

My Day Trip

"There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1

Yesterday, I awoke with a longing to visit the mountains. I asked my beloved husband if he would take me to see the leaves. He agreed and off we went. We enjoyed a beautiful day with our furry kids. The leaves were a golden yellow and orange with a vague hue of red sprinkled in.

I continue to gather my thoughts from my day trip. I am overwhelmed with the blessings sent my way. GOD revealed Himself in magnificent ways at every turn. In the coming days I hope to share from the depths of my heart the blessings of Sunday, October 25th, 2009.

Amazed by HIS grace,

Andrea

Miracles

Today, I would like to encourage you to visit my other blog. It is written in the voice of my beloved Alaskan Malamute, Sitka. He is my baby. Yes, I know babies do not normally weigh 125 pounds, but this one does.

Some of you know my husband and I have therapy dogs. We take them into hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities. We do a variety of things from encouraging a stroke patient to try and walk, encourage patients with terminal disease, and much, much more.

Last night we witnessed not one, but two miracles. Over the past year or so we have been visiting Central State Psychiatric Hospital, Petersburg, Virginia. We are the only "outside" therapy dogs ever to be allowed into their facility. Time and time again we have witnessed dramatic change in the patients, but last night was beyond what we could have asked or imagined.

Doug and I chose this ministry because there is such a tremendous need. Please jump over to Sitka's blog: All GODS CREATURES and read about our adventure. If you have time look back into the archived posts and read about other adventures we have experienced. Sitka would love for you to join and follow him. He loves "everyone."

Thank you for patiently allowing me to break from the norm on this blog and share a little about the ministry Doug and I are passionate about.

Amazed by HIS grace,

Andrea

Praise and Answered Prayers

Pray for David

Yesterday, David (my brother in law) and Courtney (my sister) met with the Oncologist regarding David's recent diagnosis (Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia). David is in the early stages of the disease. His red blood cell count remains high. His blood loss was due to Esophagealitis. He will have his red blood cell count checked bi-weekly. The doctor recommended a holistic approach at this time. CLL progresses slowly. As the doctor said, "we will save chemo treatments for later; we do not want to compromise your immune system while it is still working properly."

Our family is overwhelmed. We know our prayers are being answered. We see GOD's hand at every turn and we praise HIM for it. We thank you for your continued prayers as David and Courtney continue on this journey. May GOD bless each of you for taking the time out of your day to storm the heavens on our behalf.

"Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and HIS praise in the congregation of the godly ones. Let Israel be glad in his Maker; Let the sons of Zion rejoice in their king. Let them praise HIS name with dancing; Let them sing praises to HIM with timbrel and lyre. For the Lord takes pleasure in HIS people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation." Psalm 149:1-4

Dancing before the Lord with praise,

Rest

"Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him." Psalm 37:7a

"As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for Thee, O God." Psalm 42:1

Resting in HIS arms,

Andrea

*Thank you PRAYER WARRIORS for praying for our family at this time!

Update on David

Last night we received David's formal diagnosis: Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia

On Monday, David will meet with the Oncologist to discuss the disease process and a course of action best for him. Please continue to storm the heaven's on his behalf.

Some things are family is praying specifically for:

1)Healing

2)Strength for the journey.

3)For GOD to use all situations in each of our families lives for greater good.

Some things we are praising HIM for:

1)David getting to a doctor and receiving treatment. David was within 72 hours of dying when he entered the hospital with a hemoglobin of 3.

2)Answers

3)Working in and through our family in ways we can not even begin to describe. We see HIS hand preparing the way before us.

"Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, For THOU art my praise." Jeremiah 17:14

"..the joy of the Lord is our strength." Nehemiah 8:10

"I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer." Psalm 63:4

Again, I thank each of you on behalf of our entire family. We will never be able to express what it means to us that so many are praying for David and our family. May GOD richly bless each of you in all that you say and do.

By HIS mercy and in the grip of HIS grace,

Andrea

*There is a prayer button for David at the top of the blog if you would like to post it on your blog or web page. Thank you to all who have already posted it.

Continued Journey

Pray for David

Today is a new day in our journey. David will endure further testing (colonoscopy and endoscopy). The doctors and staff at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola Florida are being thorough before they give a detailed diagnosis and prognosis.

However, our family knows God is the only one with "all" the answers. He knows the number of days we will be on this earth as well as how many hairs are on our head. He loves each of us and He will indeed see us through this difficult time.

"But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore, do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows." Matthew 10:31-31

As we continue to walk this journey knowing we are in the palm of GOD's hand we covet your prayers and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Forever in HIS grip,

Andrea

*Please pick up David's prayer button on the side bar and place it on your blog.

Sweet Savannah Faith

Today, Savannah asked her parents to bring her to see Nana. Upon arrival she ran and jumped into my arms saying, "I needed to see Nana."

I share Savannah's beautiful heart with you today as I remember what is most important in life.

"Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the kingdom of GOD belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the Kingdom of GOD like a child will never enter it. Then He took the children in his arms and placed His hands on their heads and blessed them." Mark 10:14-16

Blessed to be a Nana,

Andrea

Forgiveness

"Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:32 The Message

Many of you know, I have been plagued with allergies lately. Some days are bad and yesterday was one of them. Unfortunately, my family suffers along with me. I was miserable no matter what I did.

My day began in prayer. I then spent a little time reading blogs and trying to find encouragement. The many Thankful Thursday posts touched my heart.

My day was full, even though I did not feel like doing anything. My hubby's truck needed to be dropped off with the mechanic and picked up later in the day. He also had a few errands he wanted to take care of before we could go home. Doug is a wonderful husband and prefers for us to do things together. He enjoys having me with him.

Then there is homeschooling. We only have one child left at home. He is the easiest of all five. Wil has a tender heart and has given us NO problems up to this point. I cherish our time with him. He makes parenting easy.

By now you are probably saying, "What's the problem? Sounds like a great day." Well, it would have been, but my attitude was horrible. I did not enjoy any of it and that oozed from my being. At one point, Doug said, "you are cranky" and he was right. I was even cranky with the dogs.

I awoke at 3 am this morning thinking about forgiveness. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband and child who forgive me, but I am even more blessed to have a Heavenly Father who recognizes my weaknesses, loves me fully, and forgives "ALL" my sins.

Clearly, I am a work in progress.

Blessings and prayers,

andrea

A Place and Purpose!

Savannah (5 weeks old)

"Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; take good counsel and watch them succeed." Proverbs 15:22

"Mortals make elaborate plans, but GOD probes for what is good. Put GOD in charge of your work, then what you've planned will take place." Proverbs 16:1-3 The Message

"When GOD approves of your life, even your enemies will end up shaking your hand. Far better to be right and poor than to be wrong and rich. We plan the way we live, but only GOD makes us able to live it." Proverbs 16:7-9

Blessings on your journey,

Andrea

*Allergies are plaguing my being, again. Sorry if I do not get around to all of your blogs. I am trying to breath and resting in my Heavenly Father's arms. Praying for healing, strength, and GOD's plan to be fulfilled in my life.

Climbing Dirt Mountain

Savannah trying to climb a mountain of dirt at Point Of Rocks Park, Chesterfield, Virginia.

Many of us face mountains daily. We begin the climb and often become a bit dirty fighting our way to the top. We have a choice to make:

1) Keep up the good fight, knowing our Heavenly Father is with us every step of the way.

~OR~

2) Give in and quit.

"The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent." Exodus 14:14 New American Standard

"Our king will rule us and lead us and fight our battles." 1 Samuel 8:20 The Message

"You take over. I'm about to die, my life an offering on God's altar. This is the only race worth running. I've run hard right to the finish, believed all the way. All that is left is the shouting-God's applause! Depend on it, he's an honest judge. He'll do right not only by me, but by everyone eager for his coming." 2 Timothy 4:6-8 The Message

Do not become so overwhelmed by the mountain in your life. Take the focus off the mountain and place it on your Heavenly Father. HE is cheering you on. Run up the mountain, knowing HE is right there with you.

Strengthened for the climb,

Andrea

Thank you, Jerry K. Brown

(Scripture tag made by Edie)

Doug and I would like to thank Jerry K. Brown. He faithfully serves our country in Iraq. We enjoy the freedoms of American because of Jerry and other men and woman like him. Jerry flew a beautiful American flag in Iraq on September 11, 2009 and presented it to Doug and I through the mail. We have a beautiful certificate presenting it to us, too.

Doug and I are overwhelmed. This gift brought both of us to tears. We can not possibly express our feelings adequately. The best gift we could give back to Jerry and others serving our country is our continued prayers and support.

Please join Doug and I as we storm the heavens with prayers for Jerry and all those who serve our country in the armed forces.

May GOD bless America and all our troops!

Andrea
